THE 8 PASSENGER AMARYLLIS
....
The eight passenger ultra deluxe Amaryllis is a 40 meter Dutch hull,
vintage 1962, and sister ship to Fleur de Lys. She was converted into
the most upscale hotel barge throughout 2001 and welcomed her first passengers
in Spring 2002. Designed in conjunction with La Fluviale, a prominent
boat company in St. Jean de Losne, she has been decorated by some of
the most respected names in France and Italy.
The air conditioned interior of this luxurious péniche-hôtel
is traditionally French, with contemporary touches set
off by Louis XVI and XV antiques. Settle into the comfortable
lounge with a drink from the open bar, linger over dishes
cooked by the cordon bleu chef or simply watch the magical
French countryside unfold all around.
Amaryllis is only available for groups or families wishing
to charter the whole barge. She sleeps up to 8 guests and
has 6 crew on board. Each suite has a choice of twin or
double bed configuration and has been meticulously decorated
in a traditional style, complimented by occasional tables
from Li Puma of Florence. The specially designed window
casings incorporate huge windows that panoramically frame
the passing countryside. Relax on the top deck on sun loungers,
luxuriate in the heated swimming pool or cycle along the
tow path on one of the included bikes.
Below you can find some of the highlights of the cruises
we are currently offering on Amaryllis, along with some
examples of the cuisine and fine wines the master chef
will present you with on board. You can view the current
itineraries and maps by clicking "Amaryllis Cruises" on
the menu on the right where you will also find links to
the photo gallery, deck plan and cruise rates.
Transfer to the barge from the meeting point on Sunday,
6 night cruise, all meals on board catered for by the on
board Master Chef, open bar 24/7 with a large range of alcoholic
and non alcoholic drinks, all wines served throughout the
cruise, excursions and admittance fees as per the itinerary,
use of barge facilities, which includes bicycles, computer

Sunday, Day 1 Paris to Dijon
Guests are met
at their hotel in Paris and transferred to Paris Gare de
Lyon for the 1st Class TGV train journey
to Dijon station, where you are met by the crew, who transfer
you to the barge at Dijon's Port du Canal for your cruise
through Burgundy. A champagne reception welcomes you on
board and gives you a chance to meet the crew. Later that
evening, experience your first dinner on board.
Monday, Day 2 Dijon to Longecourt
This morning
enjoy your first cruise on the canal. Once moored in Longecourt
visit the Château de Longecourt
which has been owned by the same family since 1631. It
has been beautifully decorated through the centuries and
is rich in history. Some 'graffiti' can be found in the
stables, left behind by the American pilots who stayed
there during World War II. If the count is in residence,
he will give you a personal tour of his property.
Tuesday, Day 3 Longecourt to St Jean de Losne
After
breakfast, enjoy a walking tour of Dijon including a visit
to the market, the Grey Poupon mustard shop and
the Ducal Palace. There will be some free time for shopping
or perhaps, to sit in one of the numerous pavement cafés
and simply just watch the world pass by. Return to the
boat for lunch and an afternoon cruise to St Jean de Losne,
the barging capital of France. Take some time this evening
or early tomorrow to stroll around the port and see the
many working and pleasure barges.
Wednesday, Day 4 St Jean de Losne
to Chalon sur Saône
Continue
to cruise the peaceful valley of the River Saône
downstream to Seurre. Today, lunch is taken at Loiseau
des Vignes. In the afternoon, discover Beaune, the capital
of the wine region of Burgundy. Enjoy a visit to the famous
Hôtel-Dieu, Hospices de Beaune and a wine tasting.
Later, your guide takes you on a walking tour of the pedestrian
area in Chalon-sur-Saône, the last of the Burgundian
style river towns.
Thursday, Day 5 Chalon sur Saone to Rully
The
barge cruises leaves the River Saône by clearing
the lock to enter the Canal du Centre. Back in the canal
environment you may disembark the barge at a lock, bicycle
alongside or walk and keep up with the pace of the barge.
After lunch, visit the Château de Germolles, the
only remaining residence of the Dukes of Burgundy. Tonight
it is back to a countryside mooring in Rully.
Friday, Day 6 Rully to St Léger
A leisurely
cruise to St Léger, another quaint
village along the Canal du Centre which is our final destination.
Your guide takes you to the stunning 11th century Château
de Marguerite de Bourgogne in Couches, for a tour of the
magnificent buildings, surrounded by their own vines, followed
by a wine tasting in their cellar. Meanwhile the chef is
busy preparing your Farewell gala dinner on board.
Saturday, Day 7 St Leger to Paris
After breakfast
disembark the barge and transfer to local station for your
included TGV train back to Paris Gare
de Lyon.
On alternate weeks the cruise is in the reverse direction.
This is a sample itinerary and is subject to change.
